History

The Taylorsville Fire Department was organized in the year of 1924. Since that time, the department has provided fire protection for the citizens of the Town of Taylorsville and Central Alexander County.

Some of the first fire-fighting equipment noted by the department consisted of a two-hose reel rig that was transported somewhat like a wagon pulled by hand. The first gasoline-powered fire engine purchased by Taylorsville Fire Department was a 1917 Model-T Ford followed by a 1928 Model-T, 1939 Chevrolet, 1958 Ford, and a 1967 American LaFrance.
